Did the ID benchmark change your mind on your video card buy?

Patience is a virtue, that's what they say anyways. That's going to be a real nice rig when it's done though, way better then mine,I'm jealous.I would love to be able to just upgrade everything like I used to,but it got to damn expensive so I had to kick that habit quick before my wife killed me and we had to sell our kids into slave labor to pay for it.Good luck with the work.I hope you make some money to finish your computer.
Thanks, this will be my first rig in over a year of my own. The computer I'm on now is a freebie from a customer (I work at BB and they offered it to me) its a compaq athlon 500Mhz hehe but it lets me surf! :D
I have to show my exgf this post just to rub in the fact I choose computers over her hehe.
Have a wonderful day!

This poll is awful. How about an option to those who were getting the 6800 anyway?
I'm unsurpased in aweful polls sir! :D
Ok, 1 down for "I would of bought a 6800 anyway! ;)

Think about it. The thread's poll is asking did the Doom 3 Benchmarks change you're mind about getting a particular card. If you're getting the 6800 anyway, then the poll really doesn't apply to you or in a best case your answer is simply No.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I think most of us geeks don't get enough sleep hehe.
Ok, one last bump. :)

I admit I was already leaning toward nvidia side due to the performance boosts in SM3.0. The benchmarks just solidified it more.

What performance boost? lol take it you haven't seen this yet?

X800XT PE all the way for me, thsi is the performance lead before the 4.8's....oh can I not wait to see the doubters faces when the egg hits ;)

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/6800andX800XT/test setup.htm

To change your mind on one benchmark from one site, with a set up like that is pure lunacy, especially with the xt pe dumping on on the 6800 series with everything else....... read the above url....that'll only stretch when the 4.8's are out....trust me. I can't beleive what I have read on here lol suppose everyone makes their own choice but some of the 'reasons' are pure stupidity!!! lol

At the end of the day, everyone who has already decided/bought a GT based on this bench, ur crazy, very good card but ur crazy. The XT PE is beating the ULTRA by upto 10fps in most of the benches at the driver heaven review, some by even 50fps! Yet the XT PE is now 'extinct'.......????

The next few weeks are gonna be good....get the popcorn ready, and keep those receipts handy ;)

Noone is gonna return their 6800 to get a few more fps in Far Cry lol. The 6800's will have HDR in the 1.3 patch which will be awesome. Crytek also recalled the patch so who knows what the performance will be like when they release it again. And the IQ is still shit on the X800XT's with the 1.2 patch no matter what path you run lol.

nVidia is also saying that ATI payed off Crytek in excess of $500,000 to delay the 1.2 patch and add in ATI features.

And when Doom 3 comes out, thats the only game that will matter :p. People wont be playing Far Cry. They'll be playing DOOM 3 and HL2. And HL2 with have SM 3.0 support along with possibly OpenGL support.

OpenGL performance alone is enough not to want to trade in for an X800. Plus the fact that ATI is optimizing out their bungholes. There was some "fudging" reported in the DOOM3 testing on the ATI cards. And we all already know ATI is using alot of Brilinear filtering tricks and trying to hide it.

When you disable Tri and AF ops on the 6800's in Far Cry, they only lose a whole 5 fps at 1600x1200 w/ AA + AF enabled. If you tried to force the X800 to run full Trilinear it would lucky to get a single win in Far Cry. And thats why ATI wont give its consumers the ability to disable Tri and AF ops like nVidia has.

LOL whatever man....

First of all tell me which has better IQ

http://www.hardocp.com/images/articles/10892340776zfLm5mqEz_2_7_l.jpg

from this very site if I'm correct...;)

And didn't you read the last post and links....ATI runs PS2.0b way faster than PS3.0 on Nvidia cards....and I mean WAY faster......so that kinda blows your Half Life theory....

And the 500k thing is pure Nvidia BS to try and cover up the fact they are again lacking in DX9 compared to ATI, yeah OGL performance isn't as good as Nvidia's I'm the first to admit, but you make it sound like D3 is gonna be like playing the original Doom....get a grip man and get a perspective.....EVERYTHING else runs faster on the x800XT PE, hell even the x800PRO matches the 6800U in some dx9 games!!! Oh and BTW, D3 will run pretty much prfectly on ATI cards as well, but don't tell anyone else around here...they may freak out a bit

I'm ok to wait to be proven right....just remember I wanna hear YOU say it when the benchies come out :)

WOOT I love it when things get juicy and people SERIOUSLY regret over reacting.....one game lol.....you can keep ur fps lead in D3, us ATI users will keep the same lead in everything else :)

I got my BFG 6800 GT OC primarily for the SM3.0 and some of the other features. I like the fact that this is new architexture with the 6800 series. I don't think anyone really should base what card they are going to buy on any one game; you really should be looking at the entire picture.

I am really happy to see that Doom3 should run like clock work on my computer. This game should run on any high end system with either the 6800 series or the X800 series. Both cards will run the game with very simular performance when it's all said in done IMO.

I think most ppl who wanted to return their x800pro cards for 6800GTs for Doom3 have already done so actually :)

First of all tell me which has better IQ

First of all you are using a pic from the 1.1 patch, not the 1.2 patch which fixes the artifacting in the 1.1 patch.

Second of all the x800 will look noticably worse in FarCry 1.3 when it has no HDR lighting while the 6800 does.

So in the end if you are concerned about the best FarCry IQ, the obvious choice would be the 6800 for its HDR Lighting.

As for predicting the future with FarCry final SM3.0 path and Half Life 2 final performance, well I try not to be a fortune teller. But based on current benchmarks the 6800 and x800 series perform similarly in DX, but the 6800 is much faster in OpenGL. That's the most logical guess to make. Therefore when all is said and done FarCry/Half Life/CS will probably play similarly on 6800/x800 (though farcry will look better on 6800), and Doom3/quake4/rtcw2 will probably play faster on 6800 cards.

nVidia bought all of 3DFX's technology and i believe they hired their OpenGL driver team.

3DFX cards ran under the Glide API remember.
