After the big ID benchmarks have any of you changed your mind on the video card your getting now?
 
I was alaready at long debate with myself over the nvidia vs ati bit...

I admit I was already leaning toward nvidia side due to the performance boosts in SM3.0. The benchmarks just solidified it more.

But, also upon reflection, you must take note that ATi's OpenGL code isnt up to par.(Thus, why they are redoing the code)
 
personally im waiting for ATI to get done rewriting the opengl drivers.....then ill prolly still go with a GT........LOL..........:D (should also drop all cards a little closer to my price range)
 
me, i dunno...i just spent money on my 9800Pro and its gonna HAVE to get me thru till R520 and NV50 since im not made of money like others here(no offense, i know if ihad the cash to burn i'd be on a 6800 and/or X800 already too ;) ) still wanna wait and see what real life numbers look like after the game is out, i see no reason why the coding god himself(aka carmack) couldnt get this game to run smoothly on a 9800.

now, if only HL2 would come out @ a decent time XD
 
I'm not going to jump on any bandwagons until I see Hl2 benchmarks. If I remember correctly d3 is a "best on nvidia" game and hl2 is a "best on ati" game. So we will see.
But I have had a 9700pro since it came out, and still hate ati's drivers, seem to have a new problem after every update, and end up rolling back every time.
 
I made my choice over a month ago with my $430 dollar pre order, Ati X800 XT-PE. While I have been waiting for Doom 3 since it was announced its only one game and one that seems to run good on Ati hardware. I also have been waiting for HL2 soon after I finished HL1. And a quote from Gabe stated HL2 should run faster on Ati hardware, that and I am getting this card for 70 bucks cheaper then MSRP..
 
Dam it now i gotta pull down all my canadian flags And learn all tha GREEN LINGO AGAIN :eek: :p J/K
 
Didn't effect my choice.

HL2 is the game I'm going to play more.
Doom only offers single player, HL2 is the entire package.
 
Had my GT for nearly a month now, lovin it even more now.

I'm just sittin around waiting to get banned from a post on page 26 of the big doom III thread. :D
 
If I find an ultra before my XT ships (which will probably be another month at this rate), it's welcome back Nvidia.
 
For the time being Ill be holding off to see what each card can do...then maybe in about 4-5 months Ill pick one....

I think it will have a 4 person multiplayer.... but wait for the mods to come out. I'm sure there will be some bad ass mods based on it just like Q3. Which my fav mod of all time was rocket arena 3. But there were SO MANY GREAT FREE Quake 3 mods. I'm cant wait for Doom3. Buy 1 game... get 20 mods free.

Correct, it's been confirmed that D3 will have a 4 person deathmatch. I can only hope that it will have coop, or at least that someone will mod coop into it.

Xbox owners will get COOP but us PC Gamers dont, SHAME. Lets hope a mod can be made to fix that...
 
I don't understand why developers don't put coop in PC games anymore? I mean, that's the best part of the game in my opinion, and many people would agree with me. What could be more fun that grabbing one or 2 friends and playing through as a squad of marines. Halo pissed me off when the PC didn't have coop, and now D3 doesn't? Come on developers, open your eyes. Coop=more fun=more copies sold.
 
Umm... what about those of us who have or were planning on a 6800 before the review came out? I have a BFG 6800GT on order.
We need an option for "already settled on a 6800".
 
Lol, yeah. I didn't vote in the poll b/c the only "no" option says you chose an ATI. What if we picked a 6800 but the benches didn't have any influence?
 
Exactly. I picked a 6800GT since I use Linux a lot & I have no space in my rig for a 2-slot card. I'd have ordered a 6800U if they fit in a single slot.

And yes, no coop is lame. Far Cry should have coop too IMHO.
Hell, I even like playing UT coop (start a team game & all switch to the same side) w/ my dad & brother when I'm home for the holidays. Basically my brother usually whoops me and both of us always whoop dad, so deathmatches get old kinda fast.
 
Time to flush my X800Pro down the crapper, waiting for a 6800U sux, i feel like a kid at christmas, i keep waiting for my presents feels like a eternity im just gonna dump some cash on ebay and get one sooner.

I'm going to let my 9800 hold me over until Half Life 2 and Tribes: Vengeance are out.... then I'll make a choice. I'll go with whatever card gets me the best performance in T:V at the highest detail level

Actually, I am waiting for the NV48 in SLI. Perhaps that will be the 6850 Ultra 2 Wide SCSI SLI Cabled.... Anyway, dual NV48's with 512MB of mem on each. :cool:

ATI SUX thats why i own 3 of there cards, i must buy a 6800ULTRA!!! I love both companies i wish 3Dfx would come out of no where and put out a killed card that could run doom.

nVidia bought all of 3DFX's technology and i believe they hired their OpenGL driver team.
 
I see it this way,

If i were going to play nothing but Doom 3 for the rest of my life i would have bought a 6800Ultra. But since most current gen and next gen games are in Direct 3D, i will keep my x800XT. Since the x800XT is far superior to the 6800U in D3D.

That’s what influenced my purchase.
 
I'm keeping my X800 Pro,I don't think I'm going to miss out a whole lot playing D3 at 1280x1024 with some AA&AF thrown in since that's the native resolution of my LCD anyways.It's a very nice card and was a great upgrade from my 9700 Pro plus I got it cheap and a majority of people still have last generation parts so I don't have anything to complain about.Besides the most important thing is that it's going to be a fun game no matter which card you have from the last couple generations even if you have to turn down your settings.

Patience is a virtue,that's what they say anyways.That's going to be a real nice rig when it's done though,way better then mine,I'm jealous.I would love to be able to just upgrade everything like I used to,but it got to damn expensive so I had to kick that habit quick before my wife killed me and we had to sell our kids into slave labor to pay for it.Good luck with the work.I hope you make some money to finish your computer.
