Notifications not working for conversations

I just logged in and found I had two "conversations" that people had started with me, one of which was from Sunday. I have notifications turned on for this is my profile, but I never received any notice. My email is Gmail, so it's not like my ISP's mail servers are wonky. And yes, I checked the spam/junk folders - nothing there.
 
Read the notice at the top of every page?
 
Sorry, I thought I have had notifications for thread posts since then, but I guess I haven't.
