Hey everyone! I've come across a problem with my server computer. It's a PIII 850Mhz Socket 1 on an ASUS P3B-F motherboard with a 64MB, and 2 128MB sticks of RAM. I modded it into a new case made from an old modified HP printer a while ago, but I haven't posted pics or anything since it wasn't working correctly. At first the HD wouldn't boot, and I figured out how to fix that after plugging in the HD into my other comp, and wasn't able to mess with it back in the server until later. After reinstalling them in an improved bracket for the HD's, the thing won't display at all, like, even the BIOS POST. The LED on the mobo turns on, and the processor turns on, but nothing will display on the montior, and the mobo doesn't come with an onboard display device. This is what I have tried so far:

-I tried switching out to a different AGP card, and then to two different PCI cards in different PCI slots to ensure it's neither the card nor the slot.
-I tried using a different monitor.
-I tried using a spare PIII 533Mhz Processor (wth do I have a SPARE PIII Socket1? I've almost never thrown a component away :D ) I know that there's essentially no reason it would be the processor, but hell, I mean, I've got one, why not use it :-P
-I even tried reinstalling it back in the original case for God knows what reason :rolleyes:

So I'm out of ideas, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to talk to you guys about it before I condemn myself to replacement, or prob a new processor mobo combo. So thanks in advance!

sounds like the video card or monitor... give us specs
 
The monitor is a piece of junk I got for 25 bucks because it has slight (pretty much non-existant) burn-in, but that's not the problem, as I tried two different monitors, both of which were tested on another computer.
The vid cards are as follows:
-AGP
+PNY GeForce 4 MX440
+Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 something or another
-PCI
+2 different Diamond Stealth 64's

Don't ask me why I have so many vid cards laying around (that's not all the ones I own >.<) I have far more than an 18 year old knows what to do with ^.^
So it shouldn't be the vid cards or monitor, unless they're ALL broken, but they've been tested on other systems.
 
i m still kinda confused...

are you saying that this was a working computer that you modded into an hp printer and the video doesnt work?... be more specific and clearer

It was a working computer in a normal, drab tower, and I modded it into an old HP Printer. The display and everything worked fine for awhile (I couldn't get it past the BIOS due to the HD problem, but at least I could SEE the BIOS :rolleyes: ), but then after fixing the HD problem, when I tried to use it again, nothing displays at all.

i would say it has to be video but u said its not

so it could also be the psu or the ram as they are the source of most problems
 
Clear CMOS?

I had this happen to me during my last upgrade. Worked for a week and then no video. I was convinced I needed a new vid card, but before buying one I figured it was worth a shot.
Fixed it.

Yea, I tried that too. I'm gonna try some of the stuff you guys mentioned and I'll get back to ya later about it. Here's hopin...
 
Well, tried taking disconnecting everything but one stick of RAM and vid card and that didn't work, and I tried switching to a new PSU, no good, and I even tried mult. vid cards (PCI and aGP) again, and no go. I hooked up a speaker to the mobo, and no POST sounds. So I think it's time to sell my processor and trash the mobo. Well, thanks for your help guys! Twas greatly appreciated. :)

just incase you wanna test it out one more time

for the resetting cmos, its useless if you have a dead battery... i did it a couple times on this motherboard and it wouldnt work so i took the battery outta my main rig to test and it works... but you have to reset it two or three times to get it to start working

i ended up just buying a new battery for 2 bucks and saving a motherboard that is now one i use for light gaming
 
You sure you aren't accidentally grounded somewhere? Or did you ground the board at one point and fry it? just a thought since it seems everything else had been tried

No video at all? Do you get any beep codes? Floppy seek?

No Beep codes, it doesn't use a floppy drive, and the printer case is plastic, so no chance accidentally grounding anything.
