Greetings folks! My search for laptop video chipset information has led me here. Seems to be a wonderful place to find information.

I recall seeing either in a magazine, or more likely online, a review article that contrasted and compared all of the currently available notebook video chipsets. They had regular benchmark score, but also a chart of supported hardware features and whatnot. Very similar to the Desktop PC Video card roundups you can find all over the place.

I am hoping that someone out there remembers, and maybe even bookmarked this article. Or knows where I can find such information. I am currently researching what chipsets to ensure my new laptop will contain, to keep it a bit future-proofed for new games in the upcoming year and a half.
(What prompted this was a coworker getting what seemed a sweet deal on an Acer centrino laptop, but I was fooled into thinking the "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" actually amounted to anything. It failed to even run 3 out of 4 tests in 3dmark03.)

I've already got a kickass gaming rig, and a 2nd machine to run the game servers, and the trusty linux router. I think it's time to add a more portable animal to my menagerie.

It was a nice article, it might have even been linked of HardOCP newspage. I did search their headlines and archives thouroughly, but no hits came up.

but basically, anything supporting current games and being a little bit future proof has to be from ATI or nVidia, right? the newest Intel onboard graphics still sucks?
 
I know Tomshardware has done reviews of laptop GFX cards as well as Anandtech. They do pit some against eachother but not like an all inclusive battle it out with all the currently available GFX cards for laptops.
 
From my understanding the new X800 notebook chipset owns all in that realm. I'm pretty sure the [H] had a review of it not to long ago. I think its fairly faster than the 6800 notebook chip in most games, and I think they are surprisingly close in D3. I'm not 100% sure on that though, I think you can find it through searching through some current reviews.
