How exactly does a notebook LCD and a standalone LCD compare?

I've been hearing all these issues of LCDs ghosting, and I've seen crappy LCDs ghost; as a matter of fact, I am using one crappy LCD at work, and it ghosts like no end.

Recently a colleague of mine got a notebook that has a 17 inch wide screen, with a Radeon 9600M. I ran 3dMark2001SE to see if there was any issue with ghosting.

MY GOODNESS. I saw NO GHOSTING on the notebook screen!!!

So here is my question:

What is the difference between notebook LCDs and desktop standalone LCDs? Does the Dell 2001FP "beat" notebooks when it comes to ghosting?

Thanks.

I've been wondering as well.

Donde estas el guru's... err something.
