Hey everyone,
Tonight I started having a pretty serious issue with my ASUS A53U notebook. It and the battery were made in 2012. While browsing the web while plugged in with a full battery, my screen suddenly went black. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to power back on, and when I plugged it in, the power adapter would just slowly blink. I tried turning it on with just the battery, no battery, etc. every possible combination and nothing worked. Not even the indicator lights in the front of the laptop which normally indicated it was plugged in.
Skip ahead an hour, and I try again. It powers right up, but the computer no longer charges the battery but is running fine of the batteries power (fully charged). Here is where it starts getting weird... After running the machine for a bit all I can smell is burning electronics. Reminds me of the smell you sometimes get when soldering circuit boards. But all temps and everything is working ok except for the charging issue.
I found that if I plug the laptop in with it shut down, then remove the battery and reinstall it works and charges like normal. But as soon as I remove the plug and plug it back in, it's back to not charging. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? I don't have the funds to just buy a new battery and charger and see if that fixes it. If the computer is ruined, I'd rather not waste any cash on it. Also, the battery was working perfectly, and I always got a full charge (5 hour life just like when new)
Thanks in advance
