Notebook harddrives

Hey, i'm upgrading my cousins harddrive because of somebad sectors, i'm not too good with laptops so I don't know what brands to trust on laptops, the 2 most common harddrive brands i'm seeing are Hitachi and IBM (travelstar).. Personally, on desktops I don't trust these brands so i'm leaning towards the seagate that newegg has, her hard drive is 5gigs right now and shes doing fine with that but she wants a little more space, oh and this is a IBM travelstar harddrive right now.

any suggestions?
 
I like Seagates. Their desktop drives are quiet, I'm pretty sure their notebook drives are quiet too.

In all honesty, don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices listed, unless you get a drive from a bad batch or drop it while installing or something.
 
We order Toshiba Lappy HDs all the time at my werk. I never saw any paperwork for one getting RMA'd ever if that helps.
 
ok, thanks all I just ordered the seagate since it was a nice price and I just trust them a lot, I own 2 seagate harddrives and I love them :)
 
Just so you know, IBM no longer makes hard drives. You must have saw some leftover stock somewhere. Hitachi has picked up the business a few years ago and has updated the entire hard drive lineup from MicroDrive to Ultrastar. In the future, you might also want to consider offerings from Toshiba, Samsung, and Fujitsu. They make some very quiet, high performing notebook drives. Of course, Hitachi's 7200 RPM notebook drive leads the bunch, for now.
 
Yep, if you can wait, I'd go with a Seagate.. I hear they're coming out with some really good 7200rpm drives right now.

If you can't, then Hitachi's 7200rpm travelstars are your only choice. They don't suck up any more battery than their slower counterparts, and a fast hard drive REALLY makes a difference performancewise. I would settle for a laptop with a slow hard drive (even though most of them come with a slow one standard).

So Hitachi for now, Seagate will probably make a better one later.
 
Where were you?

He already made a purchase decision, and I don't think that ultimate performance was a top priority to him.
