Notebook for $1400

Hello all,

My roommate's laptop broke over Christmas break, and his old one was really not very good. Considering I'm the comp. sci major and know a lot more about comps than he does, he needs advice as to which notebook would be the best possible overall performing for a maximum of $1400. He doesn't really want a Dell, so I suggested a Sony Vaio, but I really don't know very much at all about desktops... I'll stick with my shuttle.

Anyways, let me get some suggestions! He wants to order tonight.

although I cannot speak from direct experience (and your price range excludes my direct experiences)....this Acer looks damned nice to me.


despite what Newegg says, it's dimensions (as stated by Acer) are:
13.2" wide x 10" long x 1"-1.2" tall.

You might look around rjtech.com You can piece together something pretty nice for that money there. Probably even grab a 128meg mobility 9700 there in one of the models.
