Upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.
Suddenly, my PC will randomly have display freakouts. Like this, sometimes in the middle of doing nothing and this particular instance after resuming from sleep.
The system does respond to input, but obviously because of the big yellow boxes taking up 90% of each screen I can't do anything other than issue a cmd-CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER, shutdown -r -t 0, and hope it restarts.
(The last time I did this, ten minutes prior to this post, some application was completely blocking reboot and even if I hit what I imagined was shut down anyway I got kicked back to seeing the very top of Chrome and other open windows on the desktop. Had to use reset button.)
The weirdest thing is what happens afterward.
When the system reboots, one or more monitors will spazz out, as if their refresh rates are slightly off. Checking the Windows and NVIDIA control panels reveals all monitors set to 60Hz (like they should be) despite a subtle but noticeable "strobe" effect.
Sometimes, forcing a clean reinstall of the NVIDIA drivers fixes the issue, but today it did not and the strobe remains on the right-most screen.
Sometimes, going into display properties and changing from "extend to all screens" to "clone to the two that aren't strobing" and back fixes it. Not today.
I'm currently running an sfc /scannow to see if something got trashed in terms of system files.
