I just recently installed my new hsf (thermaltake volcano 12 extreme). When I installed everything again and loaded up windows, it set my pc to be 1.59 Ghz instead of the 2800 speed of 2.16. When i went into bios, it was set at 100 fsb, so i upped it to the normal 200 like it should be. When I exitted the bios and it restarted, it wont post or do anything.

I can here the fan on the heat sink, and I can open the cd drives and whatnot. I have tried shutting it off several times, and still gettting nothing.

What can I do, do I have to open the case up and pull the jumper off for the bios and then put it back on for it to be set back to default, or is there anything else to do. And why is it doing this?

Thanks in advance...
Bobby

OK, now I reset it by moving the jumper. It then let me go into the bios. I would then mess with nothing at all, except change the date and time. Then I would exit and it would do the same thing it did before. Just a black screen and no post message or anything.

So I tried it again, this time i didn't even go into the bios. It would post fine and then continue on to windows just as before i messed with anything. But it still is set at 1.59 Ghz AMD 1500 XP when it should be my 2800 XP 2.16

I am really baffled right now...

Temps are as follows:

MBM5 : 44 C idle
Asus Pc Probe : 37 C idle
Bios : 43 C idle

I am assuming that i am not overheating, i mean the chance of all three of them being wrong is fairly slim.

Could it be a power problem maybe, not strong enough PSU???
I dotn think that would be it, i have an Allied 400W psu

If your getting 1.6 Ghz at 100 Mhz fsb then your multi is 16.
16 x 133 mhz is 2.128 Ghz.
16 x 166 mhz is 2.656 Ghz.
13 x 166 mhz is 2.158 Ghz.
16 x 200 mhz is 3.200 Ghz.
11 x 200 mhz is 2.200 Ghz.

You either need to switch to a lower multi ( 10.5 - 11 ) to run at 200 fsb.
Or run at a lower fsb.

Luck.........:D

Yep i would say thats the problem, a 2800 has a native FSB of 166 not 200

Well I feel pretty dumb right now...

Thanks for the replies guys... I guess I should really started using my mind and thinking about these things. All i had to do was multiply and then figure out the correct setting. I guess I was so nervous that it wasn't posting that I was thrown out of rhythm.

Thanks again...
