I just got the DLINK 24 port switch in the mail, the thing is sturdy! Anways, when i powered it up, I found that there is a tiny tiny little fan on the right side of the router blowing, making the switch quite loud (my home is pretty quiet).

Since i don't have 24 devices to fill it up, maybe 2 full size machines + a mac mini + a shuttle + a network printer and a router for uplink, can i just take the fan off the hook? I don't think warranty is an issue because i found no stickers prevent from opening the case.

I don't see why not, but if you can try and put some ram sinks on the boards chips.

i just opened it up, there are 3 heatsinks installed already, the fan is really unneccessary by just looking at it. It's not even pointed directly at the sinks!

those who got this switch and intend to use it at home (light usage) should consider unplugging the fan
