Looking through one of the forums a couple of days ago I came accross this program (http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/) which happens to do a pretty nice stress test on your video card and running it for abotu 1/2 hour I got to monitor how my card would get (74 degrees).

I am running a BFG 6800nu and my desktop setting is 1900x1200. When I first ran it I had it on full screen for an hour. However running it now I consistently get an "Out of Memeory error" as soon as I expand the screen to ~ 1000x800? Anyone know what would be causing this, or if anyone else with a 6800nu is having this problem. BTW this is a nice little program someone wrote.
 
I don't have an aswer for you, but i'm wondering how hot does your GPU get if you've been playing a game like FarCry or something for a couple hours? I've got a BFG 6800OC and it only goes up to 53c. 75c seems way high. Are you overclocking, or have you unlocked any additional pipelines?
 
Ya, its overclocked right now and all the pipes are open. Im not sure what the bid deal is with "too hot" since it just starts dipping into the yellow zone on the temp. It looks like these cards are pretty stable into about 100.

Did you try and run that program on your card? Gets it pretty damn warm!

I am sure if you actually saw the temp while you were stressing your GPU it would be alot higher than 53c. Once you stop it almost instantly drops like 10c.

Oh, I wasn't implying that there was something wrong with your card. I was just curious as to why we had such huge temperature differences. It makes sense now that you mention the pipes are open and its overclocked.

I'm going to have to try that program out. I'll get someone to download it and burn it for me, because i'm on dial-up.
 
I think that program just heats the card up good. I have played Far Cry for a couple hours straight, and the temp is only around 60-65, when I run that program it gets up into the 70s. Oh and no overclocking or extra pipes on mine.
 
rthdribl is a good stress test because you can run it in a window, with your temp monitor already open in another window, and watch how your card heats up while under load... no cooling down while you close a 3d game and then open your temp monitor. Just stretch the window and turn up the multisamples until you get only 20-30 FPS and you are set.

Also, it looks kind of neat when it is running at maxed settings. :)

FWIW my stock 6800 GT temps were about 82C @ 370/1.0, 73C with a NV Silencer 5 @ 400/1.1, and 67C with a NV Silencer @ 400/1.1 in a better ventilated case (Antec Super Lanboy w/ 2x120mm fans). Room temps were about 75F.

And a video card won't usually give you an "out of memory" error, that generally means you are running out of system RAM for some reason or another.
 
Sorry, it actually said: "Not enough video memory" on the pop up. Strange that it didn't happen before. Anyone have any other programs I could test on to see if this happens?
 
Not sure how much vram your card has, but you can always increase your agp aperture size in the bios. When you increase resolution you need a bigger frame buffer and z buffer, can you run a game in that resolution without a problem?

Oh wait, the problem is with a lower resolution than what you started with, (doh reading entire post.)

Anyway, if agp aperture doesnt work, try a different driver, if that doesnt work maybe you can get a little more with a lower color precision (translation your screwed). =)

/me thinks to himself does agp aperture even work with a pci-e card?

Thanks I will look into it. I have 375/900 oced right now and its on x4 AGP. This is just running on my roomates crate at the moment -- just waiting for all the parts for my dual opteron to come arive. Not sure what the games are looking like. FarCry crashes when I try to load it on this machine!

That little program starts in a window at 640x480 or something. When I expand it to about 1000x800 I get the problem. Like I said, it was a bit weird because when I was first stress testing this card I wasn't getting those kinds of problems. Definetly one of the first things I will be checking out on the new rig.
