So my system was always solid and stable with a bunch of devices on it. recently i added a new cold cathode and 2 led fans. did a bit of rewiring, and also put a ati x800pro in it.

my situation is when system is running if i hit the switch to turn on the 2 cold cathodes then i can audibly hear the other fans slow down and i see the led lights on other fans dim. i turn off the cathodes, and everything goes back to normal. now i have had this powersupply goin on maybe 3 years, its an Enermax eg465p-VE http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=305

anyhow. heres my specs since im usin alot of juice.

+3.3v @ 38A
+5v @ 44A
+12v @ 20A
-5v @ 2A
+5Vusb @ 2.2A

+3.3V & +5V : 220W Max Total Power 431 Watts

im runnin

2 Vantec Front Intake fans 80mm
2 Exhaust W/Green LED Vantec fans 80mm
VANTEC Spectrum Fan blowing onto ATI x800
1 Pci Exhaust fan.
1 5 1/4 bay intake fan (3 x 20mm)
1 Vantec Blue LED Window Fan
2 (blue & red) cold cathodes controlled by front panel switch.

so thats about it in a nutshell. and when i hit the switch to turn on the cathodes i can hear all the fans slow down and the led;s dim...so any suggestions b4 i blindly leap and pickup the chameleon power supply newegg runnin a special on now...i dont like that one cuz it doesnt seem to have enough amps on the rails, as mine has more on the + 3 and +5 but not on the others.....can some ppl shed some light to me, while i brush up knowledge on power supplies as i read some reviews on some.

Thanks for the time yall!!!

Your symptoms alone would suggest that your 12-volt rail is on the edge. Unless your inverter for your lights is drawing an outrageous amount of current you need a heavier duty 12-volt rail in your system.

Only a voltmeter will tell for sure. Go spend the 10 or 20 bucks, it’s worth it.

Luck

i have a few of those handy. equipment kits from school, i knew i shoulda learned more about that crap. hah, anyhow, ill check it....anybody else have any input? think my cathodes draw an outrageous amount of current? if so whats a good replacement PS, and one that still has good amps on the +3 +5 and

so if i have 20A on the +12V rail, whats a stronger one, while sgtill maintin the good +3 and +5??

would i still be in good shape, power wise, if i got a replacement, that had less current on the 3 and 5, but had more on the 12?

thanx yall
