Not enough power in Shuttle?

I'm in the process of building a Shuttle SK41G for a friend with these specs:

XP 2400+
ATI AIW 9600
512 DDR333
80GB Seagate 7200 HD
Lite-On CDRW
Floppy Drive
Linksys Wireless Card

Now, whenever I do more than one operation at 1 time, the computer basically reboots. Initially, I thought it was a video problem, but I updated drivers and had the same problem. I can't even go to damn Windows Update & play Solitaire at the same time cause it reboots on me!

I think it's a PSU issue. What do you think?
 
Before I swap it though, I just want to be sure it is the PSU because they're small & expensive so I don't want to plunk down X amount of money and have the same problem.
 
is it overclocked? did you use the shim that is included, if so did you removed the blue thingie? check the resources, there was a guy that had problems in a similar set up, and he had conflicts.

also try it without the cover on, to see if it is a problem of overheating. also you can try a regular psu.
 
I honestly don't think it's the PSU, because i had a SN45-g, and ran 9800pro, barton3200+,Geil ult plat 3500 1024mb, lite-on dvdrom, 36gb raptor drive, and a sata controller and never had problems with power, or it shutting off, etcetera.
 
The PSU should run that setup fine, my sn45G has been runing fine for months with more stuff than that in it.

Have you tried running memtest? That will tell you pretty quick if it's the memory or not, which I'm guessing it is. Spontaneous reboots almost always seem to be memory related. Is this a true reboot, or is it blue screening for a spilt second, then rebooting? If it's blue screening first, I'd say it's almost certainly a memory problem.

Also, when it reboots, go into the BIOS and check the Processor temps. Could just be a badly seated heatsink. The first time I installed the Heatpipe in my sn45g, and I didn't get it seated perfectly and the temps got much higher than they should have been

No, I haven't run memtest, although I will try that soon. There is no blue screen at all, and it just dies and comes back, so my immediate thought was heat, but I go into BIOS and the processor is at about 45 or so.

This is bothering me!
 
There have been previous posts stating that a AIW 9600 won't work with the shuttles for some reason and that the new silentX power supplies fix this problem. Not really sure why this happens. Might have to do with the PSU and the AIW cards specifically.

Hrm, he said he had problems booting though, not really anything after getting into windows.

if i remember correctly from my A+ class, random reboots are from hard drive errors. i currently have a shuttle ak38n and after awhile i would get a memory dump. what happened with that one is it may have bad dimm slots.
 
Well isn't this ironic.

A little while ago I heard wierd noises coming out of my HD. Like whining screeches. I come here and I read a post about a possible dying hard drive.

So now I loaded up the Ultimate Bootdisk, and I'm running some long Hard Drive Diagonostic test on my Seagate HDD.

If I found out that it is the HD, I think I might RMA it. I won't have any problems doing that through Newegg, will I? I've never RMAed anything before.

um yeah, memory dump = dump the stuff in the ram to harddrive. or at least from what i've been told.
a+ class pfft every jew and their rabbi has an a+ cert.
