Hi, recently installed some PC3200 in someone's computer, and it booted up ok into Windows a few times but now it's saying there is an error and asking to repair XP.

I'm not near the computer at all, all I can remember is that it's a 2.8ghz P4.

Any ideas? Incompatible memory? The existing one was PC2700 I think.

How do I repair XP without losing their files?! :(

I don't know if this is true today or not. I remember when two personal machines ago I had did happen to have bad memory in it. I was trying to originally configure my memory in hoping it would work. Unfortunately it did not and I saw that error as well for Windows 98SE. I took the bad memory out of the pc and it started up normal without having to fix any errors.

I went to the computer again and installed the old RAM, booted up fine. Must be a problem with compatibility - I phoned up the PC tech support as I couldn't see the make of the mobo, and they said that only PC2700 or lower would work. Oh well!
