Hello peeps, I'm rather new here although I have been reading the forums for years (but on occasions, not regularly).
I have read most of the threads referring to the aforementioned displays, however I have a small twist in my dilemma and would like the opinion of you kind folks.
I am a web developer with some personal interest in video editing (after effects) in a semi-professional lvl (have been doing some small res ads for some LED video wall screens). I currently have a 17" Trinitron CRT which I am very pleased with but alas it has to be replaced with a monitor that gives me more "screen estate".
I have narrowed down my choices to a zr24w or two u2311h. The u2311h costs about 210 and the zr24w about 350 so the price difference is 70 and lets just say that it is negligible.
So let's move on to the questions!!
1) I am familiar with the "problems" each monitor has, uniformity issues on the u2311h, bad brightness/blacks on the zr24w. In my uneducated opinion, the zr24w's problems could/should be fixable via calibration while the uniformity issues is clearly a HW error. Am I correct on this one?
2) Although I obviously care about colour accuracy I am not interested in a perfect 100% color accuracy (I do not do printed material) and I do not intend to buy a calibrator. I will only do software calibration. Will it be enough to reach the zr24w to an "enjoyable" level?
I will try the 100% contrast 10% brightness ~100RGB settings on tftcentral but the question is, IS IT GOOD? AS GOOD AS A DEFAULT U2311H?
3) Are the panel uniformity issues on the dell so dreadful? I often work on light backgrounds so that could be an issue if it is very distracting. Especially if I have two u2311h side by side and they both have the same issue. Opinions?
4) Most important question goes out to the senior developers out there. A single 1920x1200 screen or two 1920x1080 screens? I fear that two u2311h will be an overkill with such a wide resolution. Although I do drool upon the possibilities of such a setup !!
I must confess that I find the dual u2311h as a more interesting setup as I have never worked in a multi monitor environment before. But I do not know if it will be efficient with such wide resolutions. And I could always keep my CRT next to the zr24w i guess...
Sorry for the length of the post and the quality of my english, I am Greek
