Just remember though, we've still got a pretty good lead on them. It's not the time to get complacent, but this is just proof of how we've laid it to them the last 5 months almost 6. :D

Well, I've brought back up 3 of my systems over the past week and will bring up 3 more for a while. The electricity bill is killer though. I will probably be putting a number of these systems up on the FS/FT thread in the next month or so once I figure out what their replacements will be (systems I have down are XP1900+ - XP3200+ systems).
 
Pretty much day-to-day with the home farm, and I'll be the first to admit that when the A/C has to be fired up, farm units *will* be idled, beginning with the 1-cpu weak sisters below 2ghz.

That's pretty much everything minus my desktop. :(

Guess its time to finish up the upgrades. Spend $400 a month on electric, or $400 for CPUs to lessen the shock?

That's an easy one to answer :)

I'm replacing 2 boxen for every dually I put up. An excuse to build new boxes and I can justify the "cost savings."

How ironic.

We are starting a new house in New Palestine that will have Geothermal for cooling and heating and a 2250 sq ft basement :D .

Now because of building the house, I won't have the money to fill it up with folding systems and to pay the monthly electric bill for them.

A very good idea indeed. I am on my third dual core and I can tell you it is well worth the savings in power and the extra output isn’t a bad bonus either.

Twice the output, half the power, it only makes sense. ;)

Well, speaking for myself, I haven't put any points up for three days due to some bad-ass gromacs. Got 'em on all four of my boxen and even on my 4200+ it's an 80+hour project. And the real bitch of it is, that when I do dump them, it's not even gonna be that big a score. 1 408 pt, 1 376 pt., and 2 202 pt. Don't know why they are taking so long, I usually chew right through them. I've had days with higher point totals than I'm gonna get this week.

I know why...stanford hates us and likes seeing us lose to the roo's....j/k...but yea...i know what you mean...in the last week i went from a 2k+ ppd to barely getting in 1k a day :( :rolleyes:
 
I very dislike the weather lately, server farm is up then goes down, up again and down again.
I am having power issues with one of the belkin ups units, when power goes out, ups shuts off, no run on battery power or anything.

Off to microcenter tomorrow morning for a new ups and hopefully a new case or the 4th motherboard for the [H]Ark of Covenant Pc Mod.
 
So I assume that Belkin is not considered good on that sticky.
Ok I'll pick up a 1000va APC ups unit tomorrow, to replace the faulty 2yr old one.

Depends on the model exactly....it was a suggestion to help guide your buying decision. APC purchases based on name alone are not the best idea.....APC's low end products ride on their name alone. The most important thing to look for is a unit with AVR.
 
you can always check belkin.com they usually have a code for 40-50% off (12345) you can get a good deal it is a tad more pricey but with % off it is not bad

 
Ya very helpful guys, I was actually hoping to go to a B&M store and pick a ups unit w/o waiting for one to arrive via online.
I have a Apc 650 running downstairs and a Belkin Network 1000va ups running downstairs also, both run fine and correctly.

However this one upstairs, it does have avr on the unit. Here is what happened 2 days ago, I was working on the computer when both my fathers and my computer shut off, then the ups unit I had shut off also. My fathers computer is on a separate ups on a separate circuit, my dad's ups unit stayed on. On the other side of the room is my computer with a ups unit attached to it.

I had gotten a Powervar line conditioner from the [H]uman and plugged that into my Belkin ups and it works fine, no shut off on both computers. But when I arrived home from work at 5:15pm, the ups and my computer is shut off, the line conditioner is still on. The power had gone off in the house, but I didn't think the ups would have gone off.

So I do believe the Belkin Ups unit is bad, the other ups unit my father has is the same model, but it's still going. According to Belkin's website, the model that I have is not made anymore or discontinued.

I was looking at compusa website at the Apc, Back-ups Xs 900va. Or on Microcenter's site for the Apc 1000va ups unit, both same price.

That sounds like a Belkin to me. We have a huge stack of them here (16-20 units) that shut off during a power outage and never came back on. We are buying the cheap units here at work because we put one with every piece of field equipment and a 300va UPS usually last 30-45 mins with the amout of equipment we attach. We have had the least failures with APC (just 2 units) and Tripp-Lite ( 3 units). We currently are trying a different brand call Radian we have had 2 DOA's but no failures in the field yet, but have only been using them for about 3 months.
 
Doing my best with a P 4 3.0 , Athlon 3500 + and a pIII 700 running at 1 gig.
 
School ends soon....thus some of our labs are shutting of (in my case, all of them).

Solution: Buy some portable generators, plug in the farm, and keep folding!!! :p


Wow, how ironic that would be. The generators power comuters that look for a cure to cancer. The generators are powered by fossil fuels. When burned, they release gases that hurt the ozone layer. This allows UV light to make it to the surface. UV light exposure causes...cancer. :p

Is the net gain positive or negative?
 
The net gain is negative, if I was to get said generators, it would set me back several payments on paying off my car, thus loosing my transportation to work, then I loose Job, and in the end no folding.

If I could afford the generators, I would very likely get them, otherwise, I won't and we'll leave this discussion at that thought.
