My friend's old KT266 motherboard has a northbridge that's actively cooled by a LOUD little fan.
I reccommended one of vantec's chipset cooling solutions, and when i went to put it in for him, i noticed one capacitor that prevented the fan from going on.
i'm curious if using one of the supplied heatsinks with the thermal adhesive would be enough, or if i should take a hacksaw to the little creature, removing the offending fins. The computer is on 24/7, but is not overclocked, and rarely doing more than background processes.
here's the heatsink i currently have for him: http://vantecusa.com/p_ccb_a1a.html
thankles for any input....
