Normal temp for 9800XT? 68c-74c?

My 9800XT is running at around 68 degrees Celsius under normal load, and up wards of 74 Celsius when gaming. Up until now I haven't really been too concerned, but I started playing Joint Operations and it is constantly locking up on me... and the only thing I can think of is the video card overheating.

Is this a normal temp?

My system temp is 33 Celsius, CPU is 45 Celsius. So those seem to be OK.

Mine also runs anywhere between 66-69C just using webpages, download crap, etc. I've seen it hit 79C before after some hours in UT2k4.

Was wondering the same thing because this is hella hot - so hot I had to take the side panel off because it heated up the entire panel.

It does sound like a heat issue, but perhaps a cpu heat issue more.

Are you OCIng? Are you upping voltage on the cpu?

That's pretty much what I got with no lock ups. Did you overclock? If so, put it back to default and play it again.

I am not OCing or upping voltage on anything. Using Catalyst 4.9 drivers. Currently farting around with the last release of those Omega drivers but the temps are the same with any drivers it seems.

Hmm, Asusprobe says the CPU is 61C right now. Had the thing on all day, just some downloading and web browsing.

yes cpu heat issues, figure out what it is and fix it. motherboards reset ciomputers when their cpus get too hot, this sounds exactly like it

I have 0 lockups. The origanal poster's CPU temp is 45C, cooler then mine yet he gets lockups. His 9800XT runs as hot as mine apparently and with his cooler CPU temp he gets lockups. I just have a hot running gpu that doesn't lock up hehe.

I fixed my issue. I was using an older version of Omega Radeon drivers. So I uninstalled, used driver cleaner, rebooted, and reinstalled with the newest Omega Radeon drivers... and I don't have any lockup problems now.

if you run idle at 61 you should be hitting ~72 degrees max at load... most motherboards stop their cpus form getting that hot by restarting at 70 degrees...

Funny thing is my CPU temp itself doesn't really go up that much, just the vid card. The VCC voltage in Smartdoctor is at 3.32 while I'm sitting here with IRC, MSN and Firefox. No clue if that has anything to do with, well, anything.

I got the same temps and was concerned about them as well. Nothing ever came of them however.

Yeah. Like I said earlier, mine's always been hot but I never seem to have any problems because of it other then it heating the hell out of the side panel. I noticed you now have an x800, how hot does that get out of curiousity?

when i had my 9800xt my idle was around 52 and 65 on full load and o yeah one time i used the stupid atitool and stupid me i change the fan speed and i reinstalled my drivers for some reasona nd atitool put the fan speed at 0rpm and after a few minutes of cs:s beta i started to see a zillion artifacts and i went to overdrive to check my temps and it was at 96 celsius i saved it's life by putting the fan up to 100 rpm )) lucky me !!!! anyways i better shut up and yeah those are very normal temps unless u start reaching 80's then start worrying about it
