I just built a computer with a 3000+ venice based processor in an asus motherboard with integreted video. When just doing things like surfing the web I am getting temperatures around 41 degrees which seems a bit high. I am using the stock heatsink and the processor is not overclocked. Could anyone tell me if these temps are normal?

The temps should be lower, mid 30s. Mine idles at 29-30c with a cnps7000a-cu. 41 isnt necessarily bad either, do you have a high powered video card or a few hard drives?

Alot of things could be contributing to it, but it is a little high for what amounts to an idle temperature. How many case fans? AS5? Room temperature?

No, the motherboard has an integrated nvidia 6150 graphics chip and the system only has 1 video card. That is why I'm thinking the temperature seems high. Unless the integrated graphics makes the whole board run hotter?

Well, onboard hardware such as your audio and video do use your cpu. That's why getting a sound card and video card increases functionality of your cpu (faster game loading, etc.). Your cpu's temperature isn't substantially high, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Asus A8N VM CSM I take it. I have the same exact motherboard and the diode is misreading the cpu temperature incorrectly. I have an Opteron 144 overclocked to 2.18ghz on it with watercooling in an x-qpack and it is reading around 35c according to the watercooling unit and around 42c according to the motherboard die.

Will have to await for Asus to put up an update sometime soon.

Yeah thats the board. I thought the temp seemed a bit high. Must be a problem with the bios as you suggested. -Rob
