Norco 4224 PSU Problems

Hey guys I have a norco 4224 rack mount case with a 750w PSU for some reason it blue screens when copying from raid to raid I'm curious what power supply is recommended for 24 drives and PSU is most used
 
750 is good, but it depends on how your setup is wired.

Or it could be the PSU is simply going bad.

But this issue might be a memory problem
 
I have tried new memory and main board and CPU same problem the power supply only has 4 molex connectors I have read that to power that many drives your molex connectors must be on different rails on ur PSU
 
Depends on how many amps each rail is rated for. Amps X Volts = Watts.

750W should be enough for 24 drives, but maybe not if you don't use staggered spin up and 7200 rpm or faster drives. I use a 650W for 12 drives, but I've never seen it pull above 300W. I plan to use it for 24 low rpm drives.
 
750W is enough to run my 24 drive systems, but it depends on which 750W PSU you have and the other components in your system.

Does it blue screen immediately when copying data or will it crash after an hour? The longer it takes the more likely it is you have a heat problem instead.

Buy a high quality PSU with a single 12V rail.
 
It Depends On Time To TIme Sometimes It Takes 3-4 hours others after an hour it will Restart Its Weird Ran Memtest 5 times no faults found reseated cpu and memory still same thing weirdest thing is if i copy with windows copy it blue screen if i use teracopy it doesnt blue screen
 
When you got the BSOD, what was the error message that accompanied it? Can you post one of your dump files and we can give you a better idea of where the error might be coming from.
 
What PSU do you have? I ran one 750w that I had similar problems and exchanged it for a 900w of higher quality. I only chose 900 because there was a great deal on it at the time. I believe 750w was fine for my application.

Do you have any power hungry items in the server (video card for example)?
 
Looks like you can only do 180W per 12V rail. Your Green HDDs are supposed to draw around 6 watts under load, so 6 X 16 = 96 watts total under load, so you should be fine to have them all hooked up on one rail, but if you have other components drawing on that line as well maybe there is an issue.

Perhaps someone else can tell more from your dump.

the server specs are

intel qaud core
ep45t-ds3r mainboard
16gig ddr3 ram (tested indevidualy with memtest)
2x rocketraid 2680
16 wd 2tb green drives
and sorry the power supply is not 750 is 500 this is the manufactures page

I have marked the two area that would scare the crap out of me if it was brought to me to fix. No mention of OS but will assume Windows. I won't get into the whole LowPoint RR argument but they certainly will need see the insides of any system I work with.
The PSU is well below what should be in there. Aim for a 650W+ with high-current, even better if you can get a single rail supply. Look for those with 5 year warranty as well, usually a good sign of better guts.
The last thing to keep in mind and has been missed so far, Norco's are shockers for crappy airflow. Most go and replace the mid-fans with quieter/slower fans and then add a pair in the rear. This results in a partial vacuum in the rear and 95% of ATX supplies just don't have decent fans to pull decent required airflow.

If you are not good with electronics or electrical, take new supply to electronics repair shop and ask them to either replace the fan or wire te fan direct to the 12V rail bypassing the built-in crappy slowdown. This will see the PSU move a lot more air and last longer.
