Sorry if this is supposed to go in the OC section.

Alright, so I've never overclocked anything before, and I've been trying to get a handle on it.

This is what I have.

E6700 2.66Ghz
Asus P5N-E SLI (1066 FSB max)
4gigs of DDR2-800

I'd like to slightly overclock my CPU to around 3Ghz. Let me see if I have this right...

FSB is 266.5 (* 4 =1066)
Multiplier is 10
266.5*10=2.66Ghz

I cant up the multiplier evidently, so I turn it down to 9, and up the FSB to 333(1332)
333*9 = 2.99Ghz.

What exactly do I do with the memory? I have the option to unlink.

This may be an extra dumb question: Can I do this if my MB is only rated for 1066FSB? I realize overclocking means going beyond rated numbers, but I'm asking anyway.

Thanks

I have a e6750 with abit p35 pro that has been running at 3.2 gigs for a year and a half. Its set at 8 x 400 with memory at 1:1 running at 800 mgh. It shouldn"t hurt to run at 333 on your motherboard. I had to up the voltage to 1.41 to get my cpu to run 3.2 gigs.

Set multi to 10 and FSB to 300, RAM to 1:1 or lowest setting and be done with it.

Yes you can go over 1066 FSB even if its only rated for 1066.

You will find these apps helpful:
CPU-Z - CPU, Memory, Chipset information
Prime95 - Stability Testing

Google it ;)

The more time you put into overclocking the faster you'll go and the more stable it will be.
