Hello all, I've been really tryin gto get a grasp on this whole overclocking thing, but there are still areas that confuse the hell out of me. I recently built a new system and I want to get the most out of it. The specs are in my sig. The only guide that I've tried so far is THIS ONE. I do fine until he gets to the part about "RAM timing" and after tat I'm lost. Does anyone know of any other guides that may be a little more noob friendly? Also I got ClockGen, but even when I increase the FSB to any amount my system becomes unstable. I'm just really frustrated. Please if anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance.

LOTS of information in there, although the technical how-to section is relatively small in comparison, that should still be a good starting point.

If you are unstable when upping the fsb, it's probably a voltage issue. How much did you up the fsb before testing for stability? Fairly small increments are key until you get a feel for what's going on. Instability=not enough voltage (at least usually) when overclocking.
 
Thanks for the reply. My system became unstable when I tried to pass 2109.4 MHz. My CPU voltage is at 1.520v default I believe. So upping the volts on the cpu will help stableize it? Also, After I change an setting in the bios and reboot, I notice that the memory frequency increases as well. Normally it says that the mem freq is at 400MHz. When I increase the FSB on the CPU the mem freq changes accordingly as well, should it be doing that? So say my CPU freq is running at 210, my memory freq will say 410. Is that correct?
 
memory frequency is directly related to the fsb frequency (and is normally at a 1:1 ratio) so what you are seeing is correct. The reason it looks like double the fsb is because it's DDR.

there is a limit to how much you want to increase the voltage, but I don't know what it is for athlong 64s. but, a small increase won't hurt anything, on the order of the smallest adjustments your bios will allow you to make.

just make sure your temperatures aren't too high while you are doing this...that can cause instability too. Motherboard Monitor is usually pretty good for telling you temps.
 
Well, I tried to increase the voltage on the cpu and I did it by just .5 v's and my system became unstable. So right now I have it runnung at 2100.0 MHz and my temp is at a steady 42c. I'm really getting frustrated here. Any help on getting the speeds up would really be appreciated. Thanks.

.5v or .05v?

.5v is a crazy amount to be increasing by...that would put it at 2.02...
 
not to be discoraging or anything, but have there even been many Athlon64 OC's that are any good?

nothing like the P4 2.4C and XP-M 2500s, right?
 
it may be an issue with the unlocked pci bus speeds. if you have a really sensitive component in your system (most SATA for instance) it could be causing the instability due to the increased pci speeds. wait for the updated bios fix from nvidia for the pci lock (i think it is being implemented on the nf3-150 as well as the nf3-250gb/250)

maybe a ram voltage bump?
