So I only have about 150gb~ of space left on my "media server" on a raid 1 1tb setup and I figured I need to upgrade soon. So I have taken advantage on some newegg deals and now have 2 more 1tb matching drives as my others. I was just using my onboard raid controller to setup my raid but come to find out that it doesnt support raid 5 which is the direction i want to go since it gives me 1tb more space.
I am fairly "green" in the raid/storage system arena and was hoping you guys could recommend a reasonable cost solution. New raid controller? New mobo? Software raid?
Things of note though:
-I want to use this computer has my htpc eventually so WMC on win7 64bit
-Transfer speeds read/write to still be fast enough to keep up with a gigabit network.
-Raid 5 support and possibly the ability to add drives to the raid at a later date without having to wipe the drives clean (not as critical but would be nice).
