im getting a pair of seagate green drives soon for storage and backups, either the 1.5tb or the 2tb, and im wondering if there are any differences between the two except for size. both are 3 platter 500gb and 667gb.
looking on newegg, the 2tb has lots of mixed reviews regarding reliability, while the 1.5tb has perfect reviews with no problems. so it gets me wondering if they are really made the same. is the smaller drive actually holding 667gb platters while only using 500gb, or is it physically 500? or does this even matter?
i notice this with wd black drives too. comparing the reviews of the 500gb, 750gb, and 1tb, it seems that the smaller the drive, the less problems it has. even though they are all 3 platter drives within the same series.
