Hey everyone Ive had the Sound blaster Live Audigy card for about 4 years now or so and im wondering if you think its time for an upgrade? I dont see anything at all with my card, but its pretty out dated and I dont see what is wo good about the Audigy 2 and athe like? What makes a sound card good? Thanks for the Help :p

Well.. If the sound quality and features satisfy you, then there is no reason to upgrade to the Audigy2.
 
Ya, but whats so good about it. I mena something nice must have happenend to the sounds cards in the past 4 years.

Firstly, you want to look for a card that offers what you want. Don't just go with the flow, look for a card that you want. Also, look for a card with good features (such as EAX, Direct Sound etc), as well as good drivers and support. Other [H]ard people may help here, and also look at other threads to see what other people think about that card. Finally, price. Look for cards within the range you want to spend, with features that you will use.

This is a rough guide, but it should give you an idea on what you want.

EDIT: The difference between old sound cards and newer ones is the features and the quality. The Audigy2 offers 24-bit sound (with DVD-A's), EAX2, etc. All new cards have better performance, features and sound quality than earlier cards. Thats the basic difference. :)
 
I'm using the Soundblaster Audigy Gamer version and I have no urge to upgrade my sound card...sound cards do not evolve like video cards and their lifespan is a lot longer...I don't think they have added any major features to the Audigy 2 that makes it a must have upgrade compared with the Audigy 1...if you're not having any issues with your current card then I see no reason to upgrade
 
there is just this stupid problem where when I start my comp and it goes to the logon screen my speakers play what my mic hears and its usually a VERY high pitched noise

I somehow hope they don't... I can't afford another $300+ part in my comp. It might put me on the street. :p
