I had this noob question about SATA HDs. I am using a 74GB Raptor as master drive and 500GB WD as a slave drive.

1) Lets say something happens to my 74GB Raptor and it stops working. What happens to the data thats on 500GB WD?
2) Lets say the whole system stopped working.Mobo, Processor & Ram all dead except the WD 500. Can I still use the 500GB WD in another system as a slave without losing any of my data present on the WD drive.

- If the Raptor stops working you can continue to use it any other machine, but since no OS is loaded onto it, you won't be able to boot from it. Any Linux Live CD will allow for you to see the data on it though.

- If the whole system dies, the hard drive will be fine, it is completely independent of the hardware. Again, if no OS is loaded onto it, you will just need some OS or program that can read the data from whatever partition scheme you used on it. Fat32, NTFS, ext3, etc.

Raptors are SATA, and SATA is one device per I/O port, so there is no master/slave configuration. If you were using IDE with a master and slave, it still would not matter, a Basic Windows Drive can be used on any pc without issue....
