I'm a noob, just starting out to see if it's a viable option to run F@H. I've followed this guide to install, configure and run the MPICH client. It's currently running correctly, using 100% CPU. I've gone to HardFolding.com to register an account there but I can't find the StatsID which is required for registration. The registration page says "Note: Your stats id is located in the nav bar of your personal stats page, just locate your information in this section here.", but I don't see my username on the linked stats page. Do I need to have completed a WU before my name will appear? I'm using amp88 as my username. Is there a possibility I've configured things wrongly (I'm using team 33)? Thanks for any help you can give.

You need to complete at least 1 unit and then it might take 24-48 hours for you to show up on hardfolding. Tell us a little about all of the hardware you have and we might be able to help you to make sure everything is contributing as much as possible.

BTW, welcome!

Welcome to the fold!

As above, what do your boxen look like?

Ok, I thought I might have needed to complete 1 WU first because I looked at the 10 newest members and they all had at least 1 completed. Thanks :)

Q9450 @ 3.32 GHz
ASUS P5K-E
4GB GSkill
Radeon HD3870x2
Corsair HX620W
OS Drives: 2*74GB Raptor in RAID0 (using onboard ICH9R)
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB

I'm using the standard GPU client (I think because my video card is effectively a crossfire implementation I could use the multi GPU). I've had to throttle how much GPU the client can use because of the tornado-like fan on the 3870x2 when it's working hard.

Don't welcome me until I know if I'm staying or not ;)

You should get some decent point with the GPU clients.

If you have not tried the SMP clients I'd give that a go for some extra points. Or you can give WCG a go on the CPU.

Yes, if you are gutsy or just have some experience with virtual machines and linux you could really get a nice bit of ppd out of that Q9450.

And everyone is welcome here. We help anyone who wants help folding no matter the team they want to fold for. But we are cool, so lots of people like to fold for 33. ;)

I'm using the SMP MPICH version at the moment. It's maxing out each of the cores so I believe it's configured correctly.

It's been running for a little under an hour and it's done 8% (800000 out of 10000000 steps) with 9% coming up in the next couple of minutes if history is to be trusted.

The GPU client has been running for just over half an hour and has done 13% of its work unit (Project: 5747 (Run 0, Clone 67, Gen 108)).

edit: Installed FahMon after seeing it in the Atlas Folder thread:

If you were to run a Linux virtual machine with the Linux SMP client, you could increase your CPU output by up to 50-60%. You could probably also run two clients on your video card if you set it up correctly (since now you're actually only using one of your two GPUs). But you're definitely off to a good start :).

Is the SMP MPICH client known to hang and require a restart to continue working? Last night before it went to bed it had gone for about an hour without showing an increase in progress, so I restarted it and went to bed. I came down this morning and it hadn't progressed again. Another restart and now it's progressing at the same rate it was yesterday afternoon.

Sometimes there are just little glitches. Mine did that the other night for the first time in months. If it starts happening regularly you might want to post a new thread about it.

BTW, I found your info on hardfolding.

Ok, thanks. I'll see how it goes today and tomorrow.

Yep, I found my profile this morning so I registered the account on HardFolding using the Stats ID I was originally looking for. Thanks for the help.

I've decided to stop folding. It's causing too much heat and my system isn't as responsive as it was before. Sorry guys...happy folding.
