Noob question about Intel E6850

How will the E6850 with a 1333FSB rating behave in a 1066FSB motherboard ? :)
 
Some motherboards will need a bios upgrade for it to be recognized properly but I know my P5B Deluxe will have no trouble with these. If you set the bios to 266 MHz then it will run at a reduced frequency but as long as you set it to its default of 333 MHz then it will run fine at its rated speed. Better yet bump it to 400 MHz and watch this thing really fly at 3600 MHz. The reports are already coming in that this is possible without even raising the core voltage.
 
Sorry to hijack, but it seems like the OP got his question answered. I am in the market to go C2D (my 3800 x2 is starting to show its age) and I am a little torn. I saw the other thread about the 6550 running super cool at 3500 mhz. People are also saying that 6850 will be a beast (but it costs more; the higher multiplier doesn't come for free). Then there is the 6750, which I haven't really found any reviews on, but if its like the 65 and 6850, then it will also be a beast. I already have 2 gig of the ddr2800 buffalo firestix, and I will be getting the EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 mobo. This will be solely used for gaming. Any help as to which processor would suite me best is welcomed.

Thanks for all your feedback, but I decided to get the ASUS P5K-VM board. Screw Abit and its F-I90 HD (which I'll get back tomorrow, it died and this is a replacement they're sending back to me). :rolleyes:
So I don't worry if the E6850 is compatible since it will work with the ASUS board! :cool:
 
The only problem is the Asus -VM boards are not usually great overclockers. I haven't seen any reviews on that one yet. If I was going to invest in a top notch dual core processor I wouldn't tie an anchor around its neck.
 
Another question for you guys. I'll put the Asus P5K-VM board in my SFF and just forget about the Abit F-I90HD! Can I get away with starting XP Pro up and installing the drivers from the Asus CD? Or would I have to wipe the C partition on my HD and re-install XP from scratch?

It's like when you're repairing XP by installing it over top of itself. As long as you don't screw up, everything will be just like it was but the motherboard drivers and the HAL, hardware abstraction layer, will be replaced in your present XP installation with drivers for your new motherboard.
