Noob question about HDTV on PC

Ok, there doesn't seem to be any difference here between regular Digital Cable and the HDTV price wise, but they do use different Motorola boxes.

I don't have an HDTV, but I do have a VP171b, which as far as I remember is capable of 720p HDTV.

So...if I got the HDTV set top box for digital cable, would I still be able to use it on my Sony Wega (not HDTV) as regular digital cable? Would I then be able to run any cable line into an ATI HDTV Wonder and get the HD signal on it?

From what I understand you do not need the HDTV digital cable box just the HDTV wonder card. The cable line would come into the wall and then go into a two way splitter. One split would go to a regular digital cable box and the other split would go to your HDTV wonder card which would decode the HDTV signal from the cable. I dont think the cable companies output a seperate HDTV signal over their lines they just give out the different boxes based on the customers needs but I may be wrong. I myself am looking to do exactly the same thing you are so I hope all I need is the splitter and the HDTV wonder.
