hey i was thinking of getting a new video card and my computer isnt that good i got AMD athlon xp 1900+
would a ATI x800 change a lot like i play lots of games
does it have to do anything with how old my cpu is?
and wouldnt it make it faster or nethin?
 
Your computer is pritty outdated. I would start with a nice motherboard/cpu combo. Price-performace the AMD 64 3500+ is a nice performer. All of the new generation cards from Nvidia and ATI need beefy processor's in order to maximize performance.

I doubt very highly that your existing motherboard will support a newer processor. So you will have to upgrade both. If your happy with the speed of your computer, thats good. With your current computer a top of the line video card like the X800 series from ATI or the 6800 series from Nvidia will be overkill. I would recommend looking into something like a 9600 or 9800 from ATI.

Here is what you should do. Go look up your motherboard specs from the manufacturer website. From there you should be able to tell what the highest ranked CPU is for that mobo. You can see if it is worth it from there. Based on what you are saying I would have to say an X800 is probably a bit too much for you and you wont enjoy its full benefits. You dont need to get one or the other (CPU or Graphic Card). You could upgrade both of them a bit. For example get an AMD 2600+ (if your mobo supports it) and a RADEON 9800XT.

Oh and dont forget you may have to get new memory if you get a new motherboard.
