I am looking for an budget IDE (PCI) controller card for my computer. I am not going to be running raid from this card, so I don't need it, but if the card isn't too expensive and has hardware raid capabilities then so be it. I was looking for suggestions for around $40. Thanks
 
I have a promise 2 channel PCI IDE controller. I have updated to the latest firmware, but I no longer use it. If you want it PM me.
 
Look in the For Sale/Trade Forum. Cards like what J-Mag suggested routinely go for well under $40. I have a half dozne myself. Before BIOS support for 48bit LBA was standard, the HDD makers bundled the Promise cards with their 160GB+ retail kits, so there are quite a few of them floating around.
 
I would recommend the Promise SATA TX2+
Has two SATA ports and an IDE channel, and is less than $40. Best of both worlds ;)

Thanks alot, I'm gonna PM J-Mag. I remember all the cards that came bundled, but I never bought a large harddrive when they were doing that (i wish i had).

Vertigo: I actually have 4 sata ports on my new motherboard that aren't going to be used. I just want more IDE ports so that I can take advantage of all the hard drive deals at fry's and the like. They very rarely have really good deals on SATA drives,... but deals abound for IDE.
 
On this subject, does anyone know of the same thing in SATA? Preferrably 64-bit pci/8 sata channels if it exists. I have a machine with 64-bit pci that I'd like to make a file server out of, and sata drives is what I've got. I'll be using Linux software raid whether the card supports hardware raid or not. Any suggestions?

 
I just realized something, I was planing on running XP64 on this machine. So I am going to need a card with 64 bit drivers.
