I'm wondering what peoples experiences are with gaming at non-native resolutions these days specifically on laptop considering interpolation/scaling improvements and higher PPI.

Assume correct aspect ratio scaling to full screen for this and otherwise identical graphics settings.

Given two identical 14 inch displays, one natively 1980x1080 and the other 1600x900, both are running games at 1600x900. What would be your thoughts on the actual quality difference between the two?

What if we give the 2 displays differing characteristics as follows -

1980x1080p 14 inch IPS running games at a non-native 1600x900
Specifically the display on the Acer Aspire V7-482PG series as reviewed here -

or

1600x900 14inch TN (think any generic/budget laptop LCD in terms of quality) running games natively at 1600x900
Specifically the display on the Lenovo Ideapad Y410p

This is related to a purchasing decision regarding the two laptops.

Depends on the display, some look worse than others.
It also depends on the ratio of resolution change.
For me, trying 900p on my 1080p display, it looks more blurred than I like, but isnt as bad as I expected.
I wouldnt use it.

You will need to try it and see if its ok for you.
