First post for Newbi:
Is there any advantage for me to run RAID 0 (stripe) on a system I will not game on? Will RAID help speed up DVD back ups?

RAID 0's biggest help is in things like video editing, or the like.

It doesn't really help gaming, or common every day use, at least not enough to justify the added expense and risk of data loss.

So for everyday stuff like I'm talking about a single WD Raptor would haul ass enough for me. I guess I just want to speed up DVD back as much as possible.

Faster DVD burner is your best bet... But yes one 74GB Raptor will be the fastest setup for your needs. (some of the new large 7200RPM drives are faster than the 36GB Raptor, but not the 74GB raptor, yet)

At work, I've noticed that the newer Seagate drives (7200.8s with NCQ) are faster than my Raptor 36GBs in single mode :( (But I run a RAID 0)

The 74GB raptor will be much faster though
