Non-existing drives in My Computer

I have 3 SATA drives in my computer. For some reason, 5 hard drives show up in My Computer (no, these are not my cdrom drives). Three of them are obviously the actual hard drives, but two of them are drives of 0 size. What can I do to get rid of them?

Unplug them............ :p

Check in the bios how many drives show up.
Are you running a raid setup on any of the ports ?
Maybe a re-install of the sata drivers may solve the problem but back-up first.

Luck........... :D

Thats funny. They arn't network shares or subst drives right?

If you havn't already, you may be able to see the nature of the drives by:
1. Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage"
2. Select "Disk management"
If they appear there, and are really zero-size drives/partitions, you may want to either remove thier drive letters or delete them.

I totally forgot to check back on this. A few things, they are not network shares or memory card readers, those are other drives. I've disabled RAID in the bios, no need for it and it just slows my boot time. I don't think a re-install would do it because I had the same ghost drives before my current new install. I don't have any partitions either, although I suppose it's possible that somehow a 0mb partition was created on two of the drives. Not sure how that would have happened. I think I checked disk management and didn't see them there. I'll check again this evening. Stupid Oblivion has taken over my system time.

Ok, I checked disk management. They don't show up there. Any ideas?

No, they are 0mb drives. You can't do anything but open them. Might it be related to the fact they are both Seagate drives? I would think if it's a sata thing then the WD drive I got a month ago would have a ghost too.

Would you mind giving a screen capture or two of your "My computer" and/or "Disk Management" areas? Preferably with the "My Computer" set to the "Detailed" view.

Put them into RAID-0, so you'll get faster performance from them. Although, if you're more worried about data retention you could mirror them.

Wow... thats small... OK, Are "E" and "I" the offending drives of which you speak?
How about a nice shot of the "Disk Management"?

Those are Zen and Nomad Links down there, right? Do they account for the two "Removable Disk", or are the removables something else?

remember you can make a screenshot of the open window using ALT+PrtScr that way you won't need to resize this much :)

Yes, E and I are the offending drives. Sorry for the quality, it was just a quick printscreen this morning. The two removeable drives are accounted for. The two Zen links are for my Vision:M and for Notmad Explorer.

OK, all accounted for; I was hoping there would be more clues in that display. How about screen-cap of the "Disk Management"? It might help eliminate more possibilities.
