non ecc and ecc memory

can i mix this together ? or should i stick to one or the other as the cpus does support ecc memory and some cheap 8gb sticks on ebay.

worth a shot or a no no.

Hi there, you cannot mix ECC and non ECC memory together.
 
You also can't use REG ECC in most (if not all) desktop boards and processors.

I would expect this is REG ECC which is only good for servers (not even all of them xeon E3s use unbuffered ECC).

+1 10600R won't work in most boards
I've mixed 10600E and 10600U memory before just fine though its dependent on the motherboard.
 
it is a tyan s7010 with 2 6000s cpus and 24gb 12 2gb stick of normal ddr3 1333
 
That would support REG ECC and UDIMMS separately. I am not sure about mixing REG ECC with UDIMMs however.

I dont any server or board that supports both U and R mixed, generally they take both but one or the other not mixed.
