Noisy Rheostat

I need some advice. I recently refitted my computer case with 5 new 80mm fans. When deciding what fans to get I figured that I would get some really powerful ones then get a rheostat to adjust the noise level to what I wanted. I bought 5 Panaflo 80mm High speed FBA-08A12H-1BX (The Hydro wave ones) and a "Noise Isolator" Rheostat.

The problem: When I run the fans full blast my comp sounds like a jet, but when I turn them down I hear this whining noise that is worse then the fans at full speed.

Do I have a crappy rheobus or crappy fans? Anyone have a similar setup get this, or not get this?

Rheobus. Bet its one of the PWM one. What kind did u get? Vantec ones are plagued with the problem AFAIK.

Yes that would be better way to go. Not as efficient but you are doing it for noise anyway :p
