I recently built the computer in my sig but ever since I first started using the HD a few weeks ago, it sounds like the HDs from the old Compaq/HP computer that make noises everytime it accesses the drive. The drive works perfectly but it annoys me that I have to hear it access the drive. Is this normal or can I get an exchange for it? How would I classify the problem? The drive is a WD 74GB Raptor.

It is an unfortunate reality that any powerful actuator is also a loud one. You must compromise somewhere, and that somewhere is noise. It is simply not possilbe to deliver seeks in half the time of your typical 7200RPM within a similar noise profile. If you are getting a deep rumble from the drive, get used to it - that's part of it with 10,000RPM and <5ms seeks. If it is bothersome, you may want to exchange it for a Hitachi, Seagate, or Samsung 7200RPM drive. If you are hearing a high pitched whine or any other noise that is not consistent with normal seek activity, then run diagnostics on the drive and proceed to RMA if necessary.
