Hi!
I got response from NEC about their 2690 producing some hum in the power source. It seems it may be related to the voltage of 240V. In USA it is standard to use 110V, therefore it limits the problem.
As I undesrand, it depends on how much is a manufacturer willing to adjust the power source to work well with 240V.
The same situation may be also with other monitors.

Hate it.

I use a fanless computer and any electrical buzz coming from the screen makes me mad :)
I had to return a Samsung 245BW because of it. I know it's a cheaper monitor, but still, you would think Samsung since it's produced in Europe it would be ok.

I'm still looking for the perfect 24/26" non TN with silent electronics. Maybe i will have to wait until low-power OLED's are available in the future?

What monitor do you have now?
So far every monitor seems to have flaws. Colors, gamma shift, stupid noises, oversaturation, undersaturation... :)

I'm on an ancient 18" ViewSonic IPS screen.

I have wet dreams about the NEC 2690 :p, but I just can't stand any kind of buzz.

It is amazing, that manufacturers put so much effort into creating perfect screens and then they combine them with a noisy power source.

my 2690 is buzzing too, replaced twice, no help, still buzzing~ so i just gave up and tried to get used to it...

That's like buying a Mercedes whose engine prroduces strange noises. Yes, it looks nice and can get you safely from point to to point B, but when you buy an expensive high-quality German car, you don't expect it would make noises like cheap American crap (just Europen joke, OK? :) ).

i have a samsung 2693hm, there is a slight hum noticeable, but at 2 feet, my macbook makes more noise.

its noticeably worse when using the monitor's speakers... the interference makes a terrible, non-consistent, tone.
