Noise cancelling headset?

I have the Logitech G930 (I think that is what it is anyways, wireless gaming headset) and while they do block out a fair amount of noise, where my computers are isn't always the quietest. I was wondering if there are any good noise cancelling headsets (mic attached) out there, preferably wireless, that people use for gaming.
 
Honestly , no there is not. There are wireless and noise canceling but nothing that's both and effective.

I would recommend these for noise canceling : Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B or for top tier quality DENON AH-NC800's.

For wireless : Sennheiser RS 220 (does not use disposable batteries but an Lithium battery of some sort and doesn't use the 2.4Ghz range so it sends uncompressed audio data which is what you want and can accept coax/optical connections).

Anything else will either cost far too much and have less than stellar audio quality.

Edit : Well after some digging I found these (Sony MDR-DS6500 Wireless) which can do virtual 5.1 and 7.1 surround as well. These won't sound as good as the Sennheiser but are half the price.
 
Well, I need something with a mic as well. My problem is trying to search for them I seem to only get noise cancelling microphones, not actual noise canceling.
 
Then forget it. You'll either have to buy a sub par wireless head set with a mic (Turtle Beach) or get the ATH-ANC7B and a Zalman clip mic and forget wireless altogether.

There simply isn't a good product for what you want. Can you explain the reasons for forcing yourself into a wireless setup?
 
Well, the wireless isn't necessary, just a preference. I do need a mic for whatever it is though. How exactly do clip on mics work? (I've got no experience with this sort of stuff). I'm generally accused of talking really quiet by people I game with, is it something that would be an issue?

If it really isn't available wireless, I'm willing to go the wired route. I'm guessing I'll need to get a decent sound card too, so any help with that as well is appreciated.

The main reason I wanted wireless is because it is nice to be able to walk around the house and listen to music/not miss out on what is going on. It isn't really a deal breaker though, right now I'm more looking for noise cancelling, audio, and comfort for really long duration's (12 hours wouldn't be uncommon). In the past I've also had a tendency of breaking headsets because of the cord (admittedly all cheaper headsets)
 
I'm not sure what you're expecting from noise canceling headphones. I had the wired version of those Logitech's (G35) and they did a great job of blocking out noises. I've also had the Bose QC15 and Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B noise cancelling headphones. The Logitechs had much better passive noise canceling, which is probably part of the reason they were so heavy and not so comfortable to me. The Bose and Audio Technica were light and comfortable, but without noise canceling on they only did ok for passive noise canceling. With noise canceling on they blocked out some additional lower frequencies, but in no way made the room anywhere near silent or anything. Noise Cancellation will eliminate a certain range of frequencies, but not do anything to reduce the other frequencies. The un-cancelled frequencies can be more noticeable when noise cancelling eliminates its range of frequencies. Noise cancelling also has the draw backs of having a hum or white noise created by the technology. I'm my experience the Bose QC15's noise cancellation blocked out a larger range of frequencies and had a less noticeable hum/white noise.

You could always buy a pair of noise cancelling headphones from a retailer with a good return policy and find out if its suitable for your environment.

The main thing is there are upwards of 4 and 5 gaming computers running in the room, and fan noise can get up there. I'm looking for something that would subdue that.
 
I think Senn recently came out with a set of wireless noise canceling headphones that received a decent review on Head-Fi IIRC. However they were expensive and don't have a boom mic.

However you might want to consider IEMs and maybe a clip on mike. Its much easier to get noise isolation and a good seal.

Then go with what I recommended. The Zalman Clip mic "Clips" on to your shirt or whatever and is a great mic ..plus its dirt cheap. As its been said in this thread you can't get complete isolation but you can knock out some outside frequencies with active noise cancellation.

I've listened active noise cancellation Bose headphones and they sound like many other Bose products and that is to say they sound inferior to cheaper solutions. Even if you didn't mind how Bose sound , the price is simply not worth while. I think of Bose as the "Monster" of the headphone world.

Wireless is great and all and those Sennheiser's will do the job and well but they cost $600 and in a circumstance where you are simply prohibited from using a wired solution then that would be worth while. But it doesn't sound like that at all for you.

One last note , as its been suggested you can always try and return whatever you don't like.
 
Bose is definitely a big brand name pushing overpriced products. I would agree that their headphones don't sound like their price tag. However I do think their noise cancelling technology is superior to most.
 
Well, I'm going to do some things to try to reduce the ambient noise in the room (lots of Gentle Typhoons are inc to replace the Excaliburs in the cases). I'm going to see how much of a difference that makes before I decide what headset to get.

Any recommendations for ones that aren't noise cancelling, but still closed with decent isolation? I'd like to replace the G930 because I think after long sessions (think 8+ hours) it is really starting to give me headaches, likely due to the weight. I'd also be open to recommendations on sound cards.
 
i have theboom pro 3 with an andrea usb sound pod and a vxi tria with a vsi usb adapter both have great noise cancellation and accuracy, can use dictation or voip while a vacuum is running w/o any issue but neither wireless nor are they cheap

getting at least a half-duplex sound pod could help tho

worth a look at least imo

I own (and in fact am listening on currently) those Denon AH-2000D's and they are great all around. Fantastic bass , extremely deep sub bass response.

Should be quite an awesome setup.
 
Any other suggestions on a mic? Apparently between adding it to my cart last night on Amazon and now they ran out and are waiting for more (2 to 3 weeks). It's deactivated on NewEgg. Or should I just wait it out?

Edit: Saw your Speedlink Spes recommendation in the other thread, I'll give that one a try.
