Nocked off resistor or something, limiting OC?

A while back I accidentally nocked a little piece off my 9700 when working with it. Its in the bottom right of the picture circled in green, I'm not sure exactly what I nocked off but it was one of the tiny components. I'm pretty sure it was a resistor.

Anyways, the card works fine but I can't get an OC much over 10Mhz... I didnt do much OC'ing before the mishap but I think it had more headroom than that.

Could the two be related and is there any way I could find a diagram illustrating what that part of the card does?

if its about 1 millimeter high off the card its a resistor..

thats the only pic i could find, theyrei n the bottom right with the colored bands.. but i doubt youll have the ones that are that big..

if it looks like a smokestack its a capacitor

and if it looks like the loop on a roller coaster and has wire running around it its an inductor

Most boards do not have Through-The-Board mounted resistors, they are SMT Surface Mount, and look like a tiny rectangle soldered directly to the top surface of the board, usually with a drab looking band around the middle, and two shiny silver ends. They are VERY small.

95% sure it was a resistor. Sorry about the pic, totally forgot i'll get it up in a bit.

Here's the picture

yup, resistor it is..... i dont know if youll be able to find out what part of the card that resistor played a role in, theres a chance youll be fine, and a chance you wont... with the definition of a reistor in mind you might have some problem being that the cirtuit is open at that point, or that the right amound of current is not sent to a certain location, but we dont know how the card is setup network-wise...so id say its safe to give it a shot

Yea, the card runs fine but it wont overclock past like 10Mhz more... just wondering if anyone thinks thats the cause or its just a crappy core.

Man you are lucky that your card even works. I did the same thing with a 9800 pro 128mb and it totally jacked the card up. I couldn't even see well enough to click on menu buttons in DirectX or OpenGL apps. Interestingly though I was able to use windows (some websites like [H] were garbled). I was pretty bummed too b/c my older 9800pro board could run at 398mhz mem @ 66F w/out artifacts. My newer 9800pro can barely make 365mhz on the mem at the same temps :(

I was fortunate to have a 9800 Pro that I was able to OC to 400 MHz on the RAM too. I ran it at 391 MHz 24/7 tho. I had OCZ copper BGA ramsinks on them. I had 429 on the Core with a VGA Silencer. Now I have the 6800GT tho...sniffle...sniffle...

I am in the smae boat actually... I REALLY wanted to have two computers, so I have another one with an a8n-sli and a couple 6800Gt's (although one is in RMA right now). It definately whoops my 9800pro's ass even though I only have one right now... I actually think I might have gone overboard this time b/c most games seem to runa pretty damn fast at 1600x1200 even with only one card...
