No wireless internet access after Win 2000 Update

After Windows 2000 Update I cannot connect wireless with Access point from 2 PCs. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Wireless USB adapter (US Robotics 805421) in the 1st PC (the other one has other adapter-Netgear), but in both PCs the Local Area Connection cannot be activated (Network cable unplugged instead of enabled).

The problem occured after restarting both PCs having installed NET Framework 1 and relevant Framework 1 Service Pack (I installed other Windows updates also, but no problems occured afterwards). Also, I did not make any other changes except from Windows update.

I still haven't tried:
1) Installing Framework v2 and
2) Uninstalling Framework 1.1 & SP. But, since it's needed in certain applications, the better solution would be keeping it and find another way solving the problem. Of course, there is still the possibility that some of the other updates alone or in conjunction with NET Framework 1 & its SP have caused the problem.

Any advice welcome...
