I got my new Sony 50" A10 today and loaded up some Gamecube games and to my dissapointment none of my games support widescreen(mostly first party games) unless strectched by the TV(bleh). Is there a way to run widescreen over the component with the Gamecube?

You can turn on the widescreen 480p mode in games that support it by holding B while the Nintendo Gamecube logo is being displayed.

According the Pikmin manual, "Please note that on some TV's, activating the progressive scan mode will set the format of the image to a wide screen (16:9) format", so I guess that not all games that go into 480p will go widescreen, but most will and I think all first party title do.

I've turned on progressive scan at the start of a game and none of my games go to widescreen mode.

It's a mixed bag. Some games need a "16:9" or "widescreen" aspect option in their setup menus, others automatically go widescreen when you hold B on the progressive scan. But it depends on the game. Most of the recent games do it, but some of the older ones do.
