CCP Games has released a new trailer for the expansion of its once VR-only game in EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone. Originally released for the Oculus RIft, the game allowed VR headset users to dogfight to their hearts content in space, eventually expanding to the consoles for the PS4 with PSVR. Opening to an even wider audience, the expansion will no longer require a VR headset. Existing owners of the base game will be upgraded, additionally the game will be cheaper at $30.

Check out the pew, pew, pew.

EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone welcomes non-VR players to the first ever cross-platform, cross-reality, first-person spaceship shooter.

hell yes definitely buying this.. VR's still too expensive for me so i'm glad this is finally changed so you can play it without VR.

Hopefully this is another solid sign that VR will die off and stop wasting development $.

VR is = to 3D movies. At last the big theaters and hollywoo are starting to let up on the annoying 3D everything, I went to see spider man a few weeks ago and actually got to watch a non-3d showing on a ultraavx screen. Tech that makes at least 5% and perhaps as many as 15% of your customers nauseous doesn't seem like a winner to me.

The VR companies need to focus more on hardware development... and forget their dreams of mainstream software sales, lest they kill the future of the tech. All indications are the early VR push is going to nose dive and kill off actual usable VR tech down the road. I don't own either an occulus or vive but have had a chance to get time in with both... and the tech is no where near where it needs to be for mass sales.

Oh fuck right off will ya? It's the most exciting thing to happen to video games (for me) since the introduction of 3D graphics and Multiplayer. No it's not for everyone, and no it's not perfect for every game genre, but where do you think the innovation in gaming is going to come from? And where has it been, besides hats and micro-transactions?

VR is a breath of fresh air for gaming and I hope they make it even better, but seeing you knobheads chanting for its demise is just sad.

Oculus would have given CCP money for an exclusive period.

Doesn't mean VR is dead now that they're trying to make it go mass market.

Just wish the game took more skill :(

I have spent 3-4 hours with the vive and occulus. Both where uncomfortable... both made me want to be sick. (ok I did pop a little after a 30 min or so vive session) I have a good friend with the vive and from what he has told me of the 20 or so people he knows that have tried his setup (1080 / high end Intel) at least one popped on his floor, and he figures 25% of the people that tried it felt sick after and had their fill after a few min.

I'm sorry the tech is just not fucking ready. Pushing it now before the hardware is ready is going to both drive software development away (which may be the case CCP, I get it could just be the end of an exclusive deal... but I understood valkarie was always a VR first game)... and worse its going to drive customers away.

In a few years the tech would have stood a better shot. When main stream GPUs could drive more cost effective setups... and higher resolution/refresh hardware could hopefully overcome the medical issues a bit. (or some VR guru could devise a few software hacks to lessen the illness factor, NO not standing in one place and teleporting). As it is I fear the current tech is going to kill VR before it ever starts.

Its not that I don't want VR to be a thing... its just not at all ready. I think it could be at some point, but imo the early hardware is going to set VR back.

It's not for everyone. Some people say they got their "VR legs" after a while, but I can't confirm that. I've only gotten woozy with one title where you're on a moving platform and there's very little cockpit in your periphery, and I've avoided putting people into it. But I've had 10-12 people try it, and besides the few that weren't impressed, the rest were left grinning ear to ear. So I'd say it's worth the R&D capital. I'm interested what area of the video game tech industry you would like to divert that time and energy instead.

When was a 1st gen piece of tech ever "completely" ready? Are you too young to remember when the first smart phones came out? Those were hot garbage 10 years ago. Thank god they kept at it.

That's a far cry from "Hopefully this is another solid sign that VR will die off and stop wasting development $".

At the end of the day whatever happens happens, but this is a tech forum. Where's the love?

Fair enough that is a long way from a to b.

IMO a lot of r&d money has been going into vr at a point where many (its not just me) expect it to flop. As I see it it will be 2000% harder to get publishers to fund real VR AAA games in 3-4 years when the hardware is actually ready if they have all lost a ton of money while it's in its current state. I would rather they go slow on VR software development now until the hardware gets to a point where its both less expensive and high enough res/refresh that many of the issues go away.

Although I guess if the only other areas for them to burn money are console and mobile games perhaps I should just shut up. lmao :)

development needs cash flow as soon as possible. this is what is happening. how many new techs do you think can go 7 to 10 years with only investor money. everyone looks for a return.

Thank you. The only reason to be that negative about VR is that it is unaffordable. I can totally understand that. Then again the same people that complain about the cost probably blow $800 on phones every two years. But to compare it to the gimmick that is (was) 3d movies is laughable.

I also understand that it makes some people sick. There is an adjustment period for some. There was none for me, and none for my friend who owns a Vive, and he has been nauseous from many FPS's previously. It's been blown way out of proportion. I have demo'd it to half a dozen friends and none have been ill, quite the contrary. Every single one was blown away and two have purchased VR sets. The others don't own gaming machines and it's not really their thing, yet.

Too bad this game was one of the biggest disappointments on PSVR, ZERO single player fun, nada zilch, it was so so bad I have no idea how it got rated so high. Forced to use the garbage PS Plus service should be almost tried as a criminal offense.

Was hoping this was going to be a class action lawsuit and get me some money back.

Why? You accepted the terms and conditions of the service when you created your PSN account, and the game is clearly advertised as a multiplayer only game. And I think it's fun as hell.
