I have two refurbished NEC lcd3090wqxi monitors. This morning, one just up & died on me.:mad:

I can power it on/off & the input (monitor has two DVI inputs) lights up, but does not switch to another port. The menu, nor any other button, does not respond.

Is this just a controller board or something or is the entire monitor dead? I can't find any fixes for this, so I was hoping someone here could help.

Nope. Tried both DVI ports.

Front LED is blue. There's 2 positions, and it stays on the right position (where the DVI was hooked up).


I took the rear of it off. Looks like a 1980s receiver. Huge caps/heatsinks.
 
The front LED stays blue? That means that the display has a signal but it isn't showing anything. Are you getting any sort of "Signal Out Of Range" error?

Are you still under warranty?

Nope. That's the thing. There's nothing being displayed. Turning it on & off, back to on just activates the CCFL. I can't get the menu, input data text or anything.

I'm way out of warranty. The refurbs come w/ a 1 year limited warranty & I bought this one in either 2010 or 2011.
 
I've decided not to bother cracking the monitor open further.

My other NEC is starting to show some weird glitches & displaying some issues I noticed with the first monitor that blew. Considering it's a refurb, parts are hard to find, & the power consumption (143w each), I've started looking at korean models. Since it's Friday, I have the time to research, so I need to see if 1440p is worth the downgrade from 1600p to get 120hz. :confused:

These NECs run 143w each! No wonder the room I use these in is always hot. Considering these use a wide color gammut I don't / can't take advantage of, it seems that there's better IPS panel options out there for my needs that won't turn my office into an oven.

Thanks for the help, btw. Some things just die early. I'd have expected even a refurbished NEC product to last longer than 3 to 4 years for something this expensive, but what can you do?

I've talked to our service manager. It sounds like you're having a main board failure. There's really nothing that you can do to repair it, sorry.

I appreciate the help. Yeah, I think you're right. Sourcing parts is just impossible. Oh well.

They've been great monitors in the time I've used them. :D These converted me to IPS forever.

Those 3090s were workhorses. The new PA Series are pretty cool also. We do have refurbs available from time to time; you can always search our site for -R models.

Yes they are. Even for a refurb. The 2nd monitor's port 1 runs only at 720p, but the 2nd is holding true at 1600p. I figured it would die too considering one port is dead. I think all of this is more so some form of karma, lol.

I'm very aware of your refurb site! $1800 for the PA301 is a sweet deal. If I had the cash flow, I think I'd either get that or buy three PA302s over time. If you guys ever feel like throwing a PA302 my way, I won't turn you down! ;)

Thanks again. Nothing lasts forever, but these have certainly held up, all things considered. I can say you've created very high standards that I'm always comparing new monitors too!
