I've got a system right now that won't power on at all. The most I get from it is the normal PSU switch light and a green LED on the motherboard.
I have an ASUS A8N SLI-Premium board with a Hiper 580W PSU, a nvidia 8800 GTS, two Vdata 1GB RAM sticks, an AMD X2 3800+ dual core processor and a 320 GB western digital SATA drive. The case is a Lian-li.
I had a problem before where my system stopped powering up (much like this), and the only thing I would get out of the system was that the fans would pulse about one rotation around when I hit the PSU switch. I replaced the PSU (with the one above) and my system worked again (though it's now dead). However, both these PSUs work on older systems, so I'm not sure they are the problem. But then again, I tested them in a old pentium 3 system that has a 200W psu as it's own supply.
I know it's hard to deduce problems from descriptions like this, but the Asus guy said it was most likely a power problem with my video card drawing too much current and what not. I've tried swapping out all the parts and I tried putting in an old ATI Riva-128 PCI card for video with no power up luck. I also tried shorting the power pins to rule out a faulty plug.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
