I have been using Music Match Jukebox to rip most of my CDs to MP3 using VBR. I keep hearing about Exact Audio Copy and LAME so I finally downloaded them. I think I have them installed right as they seem to be ripping and they do creat files. However when I open winamp to listen to them there is no sound. The titles and song time are all there. Is this a common problem? Is there something I missed in the settings?
Thaks for any help.

Just curious..

When playing in winamp....does the timeline move? (Does it actually play the file? or does it try to open it?). Also, does the equilizer move at all? like it does when it plays music?

What version of LAME are you using?

Thanks for the reply BK. By Time Line, do you mean the slider that indicates how far along the song is? If so, Yes it does move. If you are refering to the 'scope visual, no it doesnt move or jump. I am using LAME 3.90.3

Well, since this is your start with EAC and LAME, it'd be easiest to start with a FAQ or so, there's plenty around these boards so I'd suggest those if you could find them.

But to help you out. Split up the process and see what's not working.
First: Just have EAC rip a CD to a .wav Can you play that file, do you hear sound? I'd recommend ripping in secure mode, but for testing, burst should be ok too.

Second. How did you set up lame? CBR, VBR? The newest version of EAC uses the lame DLL pretty well in a gui. I set it to 320 CBR myself with no problems.

If you get sound in the .wav, then you're losing it in the encoding process. If even the wav doesn't work, then try changing the drive settings.

Thanks for the help BK.
I did a rip to .wav and everything was OK. Next I tried an mp3 at VBR (same as last time) but in Burst mode. I used secure the last time and got no sound.
You got me shoved in the right direction. Thanks.

In drive options, check or uncheck the box that says "Drive caches audio data."

This is what usually causes blank output.
