i have a 2.4c 12 capper, D1 stepping northwood and a IS7 mobo. when i oc it to 3.0ghz (250x12) i get no sound. when i have it at 249x12... i get sound... it's weird. bios is update, drivers are all there. any ideas? im gonna try and oc it to 255 and see what happens. brb.

just tried it... no sound either.......................... boots fine.. temps are fine as well.

In your BIOS you need to lock your PCI/AGP frequencies. If you don't then your PCI/AGP busses get overclocked as well which leads you to all sorts of problems.

i was just in the bios... i didnt see anything that was similar to the option pci/agp lock

im using onboard sound though.. not a pci sound card... so why would that matter?

The AGP clock is a function of the PCI clock, so the option you see in your bios for your AGP is what we were referring to. Was that the problem?

Onboard sound uses the PCI bus. So yes it matters.

I have an Asus P4C800 Deluxe. I couldn't find a PCI/AGP lock, but I read somewhere that I should set PCI/AGP to 66/33. Is this right? I have it set to that, with my FSB at 217, and for some reason WinTV 2000 (program for my Hauppauge PVR-250 on the fourth PCI slot)doesn't run. It runs when I relax the FSB at 215. I might just stop using WinTV, but I'm just wondering if my PCI/AGP ratio is set wrong (66/33)

Sounds like you found the lock and set it correctly, but I dont' have an Asus board so I can't say for sure. Are you sure your CPU/memory are stable at that speed and it's not just crashing from the overclock?

If it truely is set to 66/33, and your chip is able to obtain that speed, the lock wouldn't be a problem
