No Screaming on the Screamer

While this isn’t tech related, the idea of enjoying a thrill ride and not being being allowed to scream seems like an oxymoron to me. Apparently neighbors were complaining about the noise, which prompted the amusement park to add this rule.

A suburban amusement park has gotten so many complaints from neighbors about bloodcurdling screams that it has instituted a no-shrieking rule for its scary new thrill ride, the Scandia Screamer, a gigantic, windmill-like contraption that sends people plunging 16 stories to Earth at nearly 60 mph.

Maybe they should rename this attraction The Sit Down and STFUer. :D

No offense, but these people chose to live/build next to an amusement park that's been there for 30 years (I'd be willing to bet their homes are newer). That would be like moving next to a sewage treatment facility and complaining about the stench. Derrrrr.

easiest way is to pass out ball gags to everyone before the ride starts up. Or a sign that says 'Pregnant women, people with heart conditions, and pussies are NOT allowed on this ride'.

Also they could just mail earplugs to the complainants.

Before I even got to the article I noticed "Neighbors’ complaints spur amusement park to insitute a no-noise rule"

If editors can't be bothered to edit, I can't be bothered to read the article...

Besides, it's in CA...

I think if I rode something like that, and tried not to scream, I would just vomit instead. :D

Yeah.. I think id force myself to shxt everywhere.. theyd quickly change thier minds..

And these are the same group of people who complain that the noise coming from the traffic near their house is noisy. Then they complain to the point where the highway department has to install sound muffling barriers to cut down the noise.

People who live next to amusement parks always complain about something. Oh the noise, the traffic, the golfers, golfballs that somehow land in the living room after shattering out a window. A contractor built a home division near Kings Island in Mason, OH and guess what people bought the lots.

If you're stupid to buy the lots near the parks, then well it's your damn fault to live near one. But what also don't make sense, most that live within a mile of the amusement parks usually go there and make noise.

The idiots that live near that amusement park need to STFU and deal with it. In CA there's a noise ordinance statewide that between 10 P.M. and 6 A.M. industrial areas have to remain below a certain db range but after 6 until 10 they can be as loud as they need to be. That park qualifies as an industrial area and the whiners that live some 150'+ away would be hard pressed to do anything other than whine about it. If I ran the place I'd tell everyone to be as loud as humanly possible just to piss the whiney bitches off.

They can still go "Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!"
That's not screaming, that's just shouting the name of a website =P

This is pathetic. Reminds me of the people in my Neighborhood a long time ago complaining about the loud jet traffic from the international airport (we were under an approach lane).... I mean seriously, if you don't like it, then why the hell did you move there?!

Who moves next to a theme park... and an 8 lane highway and expects to hear nothing but quiet?!?

In small defense of the people living next to the "Amusement Park". I drive by this place every day to go to work. Calling it an Amusement Park is a very loose definition. The place is a mini-golf course surrounded by homes and no high rise buildings. While not in an area I want to live in, it is certainly not an industrial area. (Check out 5070 Hillsdale Blvd, Sacramento CA 95842 on Live Search Maps). The ride they built can be seen for miles when lit at night and is easily the tallest structure in that area of Sacramento.

Do I think people overreact about stuff all the time? Yup.
Do I think people are overreacting about this? Well, I think it says a LOT that the park owners instituted a rule about being quiet on the ride.

I'm sure that the land the park is situated on is zoned as commercial and not residential. I imagine that the park owners did what they did just to remain on good terms with their neighbors.

Bingo! That's why I had NO sympathy for the neighbors in this case. I researched, and found out that the Amusement Park was there LONG before the houses were! In fact, it was put into the middle of nowhere so that they wouldn't disturb anyone!

Then, some idiot builds a housing development nearby, and those assholes who decide to buy homes there start to complain........ the amusement park should sue them and make them pay for libel and slander.
